Basalt Luxury Accommodation perched on the slopes of Mount Canobolas

Elevated high in cherry country, the landscape designed complements 3 luxury architectural studios, nestling them into breathtaking scenery.

The brief:

  • Complements architecture

The ‘cherry graft’ is represented in the footprint of each studio. This graft shape is repeated in the outdoor spaces, fit pit rooms, concrete steppers & ‘pickable’ planters to create an individual landscape.

  • Linkage with surrounding locality

Harmonious native mass plantings stabilise flowing slopes & provide privacy around each studio but allow guests to soak up the locality, orchard and amazing view lines.

  • Natural materials

The design includes sandstone blocks for informal seating, practical pervious functional zones, stepped paths to encourage journey and recycled honey-coloured timbers for warmth & contrast.

From the owners

Thank goodness we found Sally Bourne! We knew the ongoing success & style of our Basalt Luxury Accommodation project would heavily rely on what we did around each of our 3 studios in terms of plantings and landscaping and it was Sally who literally led us by the hand from start to finish and has not stopped checking in with us to see how our gardens are going. We couldn't have asked for a better partner in terms of landscaping than Sally - we would thoroughly recommend to others who want more than a few ideas or a rough plan.

- Simon
